Rosatom says Russian ship not involved in Balticconnector leak

MOSCOW, Oct 18 (PRIME) -- Russian nuclear power corporation Rosatom has denied involvement of nuclear container ship Sevmorput in damaging gas pipeline and telecoms cable connecting Finland and Estonia Balticconnector, the corporation said in a statement on Wednesday.

"State corporation Rosatom categorically denies any assumptions about involvement of nuclear container ship Sevmorput in the incident with pipeline Balticconnector," the statement read.

According to Rosatom, the vessel was indeed on the way to St. Petersburg from Murmansk on October 8 but did not stop or change the speed on the route, and there were no technological incidents.

Estonia and Finland had to suspend gas pumping through the pipeline earlier because of a leak. Russia's Sevmorput was named one of the suspects in inflicting the damage.
